Greene County soccer teams competed with Van Meter on Friday, April 16. The boys hosted the Bulldogs in Grand Junction while the girls traveled to Van Meter. The games were total opposites. While the girls fell 14-0 in the first half, the boys were 1-0 winners in double overtime. The Rams improve to 4-2 on the season while the girls drop to 0-3.
In the boys game, the Rams scored the only goal of the match with just over seven minutes remaining in the second 10-minute overtime. Jose Velazco scored the winning goal.
Coach Carl Behne stated that the team is working on a different offensive look since the loss of their leading
scorer, Luis Velazco. He was proud of the defense that shut out Van Meter.
A young Rams girls’ team is working to improve on the basics of the game. They lost their third match by the 10-goal mercy rule. Van Meter scored 19 seconds into the game and was up 10-0 with slightly less than 18 minutes to go in the first half.
